Ugly Chickasaw Creek

Lots of metal trashing the shoreline of this "working" creek aka Chickasabogue Creek. Here is a motor half way submerged in the water.

The amount of trash floating in and accumulating along Chickasaw Creek is growing because the people trashing their community waterway obviously have no one working to keep it clean.

Eight Mile Creek is just one tributary contributing to Chickasaw Creek watershed's trash pollution.

Uliimately communities are responsible for polluting their own waterways with increasing amounts of trash and for regularly removing that trash pollution. The density of storm water trash pollution in a watershed is a direct reflection of the people living in those communities. Alabama communities are seemingly made up of a profuse amount of White trash. Black trash. Mexican trash. Asian trash. Etc.

But littering communities are not entirely to blame for waterway trash pollution. There are things going on in other States which reduce community litter by as much as 80 or so percent like drink container deposit laws. Trouble is rich bottling corporations like Coke use their money to fight bottle bill legislation. Despite the effectiveness of bottle bill laws in terms of getting roadside bottles removed and recycled, only 10 states have bottle bill laws (1). So, thank Corporate America for polluting Earth with so much plastic.

The big bully corporations recognize the value of their empty bottles on the side of most roads as in your face where ever you walk free advertising. Beverage companies are willing to outspend environmental efforts that are trying to make single use recycleable containers too valuable to leave on the roadsides by 30 to 1 to make sure bottle bill laws do not pass. That way greedy corporations get to keep their Ugly roadside litter advertising.

My way to punish the greedy corporations responsible for polluting America and the Earth? I boycott buying drink products. Besides, the petroleum chemicals being used to make many plastic bottles are said to disrupt the endocrine system in people leading to things like obesity. All the more reason to avoid buying drinks in plastic bottles.

MS4 Trash Affects Entire Watersheds

A community's Storm Water Trash can negatively affect entire watersheds.

Take for instance Dog River Watershed in Mobile Alabama. Many property owners leave the city's MS4 trash on their shoreline like seen at this $1.5 Million dollar home along lower Dog River.

Ignoring trash pollution on the shoreline of public waterways cannot be good for waterfront property values. Who wants to buy a home next to a waterway trash landfill?

Retarded Geniuses

The brilliant minds of humans are smart enough to design and build a floating crane barge that can house 300 people and lift objects weighing as much as 3,526,000 Pounds. That is not speculation. That is what the Tetra Hedron barge crane pictured above can do.

But human geniuses cannot figure out how to design and build a machine that can lift and remove cups and plastic bottles that weigh less than an ounce each from polluted creeks and rivers. That is not speculation. It is pathetic fact.

Dense City of Mobile's Storm Water Trash pollution is the constant reality of Three Mile Creek. And despite years of complaints to local, county, state and federal authorities none of the human geniuses and leaders can figure out how to pick up and properly dispose of the light weight trash from the polluted waterways and shorelines in Mobile. (Psst! It is no secret. All that is needed is a cheap boat and a laborer or two working full time to remove the trash out of a polluted waterway in Mobile.)

Humans who alter a former drinking water supply that also could be a valuable recreational tourist attracting waterway asset, turning it into a nauseous looking polluted litter storage creek that ultimately deters recreational tourism shows just how retarded the geniuses of the human species really are.

Mardi Gras Legacy

"KDLD Goes On Vacation" January 20, 2007 so reads the print on the plastic trash floating in Dog River.

KDLD stands for Krewe De La Dauphine. KDLD is a relatively new Mardi Gras Society that held its first parade on Dauphin Island in 1994.

Irresponsible Mardi Gras Societies like KDLD are leaving behind their legacy each year. That legacy is Plastic Trash that generations hundreds of years from now will still be looking at floating in public waterways. This Ugly piece of trash is only 9 years old.

Ugly Elite Leader

Rich Governor Bentley accepts no salary.
Bentley spends BP funds to build beach resort.
Bentley spends BP funds on Fort Morgan Governor's Mansion.
Bentley's wife of 50 years divorces the Governor.
Alabama facing State budget crisis.
Bentley fires Alabama's top cop.
Top Cop accuses Governor of affair.

Politics of the Alabama elite are scandalous.

It is Ugly of rich elite pussy whipped politicians like Governor Robert Bentley to be wasting environmental BP restoration funds on beach resorts for the elite while environmental pollution in State Waterways is ignored year after despite complaints.

Alabama's sorry ass Governor Robert Bentley needs to resign.

Ugly Moore Creek

Moore Creek pollution at the Halls Mill Road bridge. Not only does plastic trash get caught in objects above the water, plastic coats objects under the water radically changing the marine environment.

Moore Creek pollution just south of the I-10 bridge. But, the pollution is mostly plastic bottles and styrofoam which people drink out of so it is harmless, right? That is the thinking of many leaders.

Reality Check:  The chemical BPA used in plastic bottles was found to be dangerous to public health which is why so many plastic products sold now say BPA Free. In an Ugly twist of fate, health researchers report that the BPA substitute BPS was found to boost the formation of human fat cells meaning exposure to the newest BPA substitute may interfere with the body's endocrine system, just like BPA. And this generation of Petroleum based Corporate Profit Oriented Giants keeps adding more petroleum plastic to the Earth's waters and Ugly Communities like Mobile continue to ignore the warnings and continue to ignore the plastic floating in their public waterways. That is retarded.

Is your BMI in the Fat Zone Yet?
Got Cancer Yet?

Ugly Ice Skate Rink

Back in November 2015 the City of Mobile leaders decided to approve an ice rink venue in Cooper Riverside Park in downtown Mobile. The last day of the ice rink was January 12th.

After the ice rink owners packed up and left, the once grass ground was left bare dirt. And the City of Mobile left the ground in Cooper Riverside Park as bare dirt for over two months even though there were a couple of unprotected storm water drainage inlets around the bare dirt area.

Finally this past week City of Mobile workers were seen sodding the bare ground at Cooper Riverside Park with grass. That was pretty irresponsible and Ugly of the City of Mobile to let a company come in, destroy the park ground, and leave it destroyed after they leave.

But then again, maybe the ice rink company fulfilled their obligations and it was the City of Mobile who ignored the destroyed park grounds for over two months. After all, the City of Mobile is notorious for being slow to deal with its storm water pollution issues including muddy water pollution.

Ugly Littering Ritual

Speaking of St. Patrick's Day Parade . . .

Sadly the celebration of this religious Irish Saint has been turned into another ritualistic litter event not to mention a booze fest. The City did not bother to clean up the streets after the St. Patrick's Day Parade. Kind of a dumb thing to leave the parade route streets littered with unwanted parade trash, especially with heavy rains in the forecast.

And it is no surprise how quick parade trash migrates across the City of Mobile. Here Rosedale Road is freshly littered with China beads probably from the St. Patrick's Day Parade that was held 7 miles away.

Ugly Cell Phones

During Mardi Gras and other community events in Mobile it is common to see Police in uniforms oblivious to the world around them because they are hyper focused on their Cell Phone.

If a Police Officer is in uniform and sitting at the controls of an official police vehicle in the street with the motor running, he or she should not be texting on his phone or playing on the internet. Taxpayers pay a lot of money to fund the purchase of police communication devices. Police should use police radios to communicate, not cell phones.

An example of this unacceptable cell phone behavior was seen yesterday at the St. Patrick's Day Parade. The police officer above stayed glued to his phone for several minutes. Another officer in the middle of the Government Street also spent time looking at his cell phone WHILE DIRECTING TRAFFIC!

Another police officer in the above photo at the same parade was also oblivious to his surroundings because all his attention was focused on his cell phone which he was showing to another person.

These officer's actions are the same as an irresponsible citizen sitting at a stop light reading text messages or watching internet videos on their phone. People should not have a phone in their hand while at the controls of a vehicle. Period. Police included.

The level of professionalism with police officers is rapidly declining. Look no further than lack of enforcement of traffic laws. You are more apt to see police breaking traffic laws rather than enforcing traffic laws. Hence speeding is so tolerated by law enforcement that more than half the people driving on the interstates break the speed limit law.

Even more disturbing are the prisons. A recent shakedown at Holman Prison in Alabama found 30 cell phones. Many of the criminals in prison use their cell phone to scam innocent people out of their money. And how are the prisoners getting banned cell phones into prison? Guards. You know, the same Guards prisoners pay off to get their drugs in prison. No wonder why criminals are quick to commit crimes to get back to prison. Prisons have all the comforts of home and no need to work for food or shelter. Thanks to Cell Phones police are becoming blind to criminal behavior while criminals in jail are using cell phones in their criminal activities done from the comfort of their prison home. That is Ugly.

Ugly Garbage Collection

Garbage cans without lids are often highlighted in the Ugly reports on this blog.
So it was surprising to see that City of Mobile has started putting lids on some of their garbage cans in Helen Wood Park. In the above photo you can see a wooden lid on a garbage can although it is upside down. But the upside down lid is preventing loose trash from escaping into the environment.

Unfortunately the wooden garbage can lids have no handle on them so when someone puts the lid on the ground the lid will probably stay on the ground. It is kind of hard to educate ignorant people in Mobile to put the lid back on the garbage can.

Even if garbage cans have lids on them when the City of Mobile just drives past garbage receptacles that the wind or wild dogs have knocked over it shows the Ugly reality like seen above after this weeks garbage pickup. The reality is there are some seriously Ugly problems with garbage collection in Mobile.

Ugly Trail Pollution

Trails that are built to attract runners, cyclists, skaters, and walkers should be maintained in a healthy way.

Unfortunately the short Crepe Myrtle Trail in Mobile is maintained in an Ugly unhealthy way. Instead of using manual labor to keep the trailside grass and weeds under control, chemicals like Roundup are used. Above photo shows half the trail all brown after being sprayed with killer herbicides.

After the trail was neglected for so long that trees were about to ruin the fence, the City had to bring out chainsaws to cut down the trees. Unfortunately the City workers left the trail polluted with petroleum.

Mere feet away from the trail, a ditch on Brookley Airport property (Mobile Airport Authority) stays polluted with storm water trash year after year.

That is Mobile Alabama for you. Polluting their fitness trail to the point that you dare not forage on the edible foods along the trail. That is retarded. The more Earth this generation pollutes with chemicals and trash the more polluted Earth gets.

Ugly Status Quo of MS4 Pollution

Many areas along Dog River are normally trashy year after year. The above photo was taken last year.

Same spot, the above photo was taken a couple of weeks ago showing the trash all removed.

Having recently confirmed the City of Mobile recently starting operating a litter boat (tho I have never seen it) and seeing this normally trashy shoreline had been cleaned, I assumed the City of Mobile was finally taking action to remove the long neglected trash pollution from Dog River.

Was about to give big Kudos to the City of Mobile but after asking around, it became clear that it was a couple of Dog River residents and the Dog River Clearwater Revival group that was responsible for this particular cleanup. Thank you Kent, Travis, Kathy, Claire and anyone else for helping to clean up this one trashy area on Dog River. This group and volunteers helped clean the shoreline of an elderly home owner who is unable to get out to remove the City's MS4 trash after every big rain.

Same spot, the above photo showing that unfortunately, more City MS4 trash has already started filling in the Dog River shoreline in the recently cleaned up area.

From what I have been able to learn, the City litter boat will not remove storm water trash from shorelines because supposedly people complained. Really? Shorelines is where 95 percent of storm water trash ends up.

So despite a four year old lawsuit against the City of Mobile demanding the city both get a handle on their community's litter problem and remove any future storm water trash from Dog River, it appears the status quo of the City ignoring all the shoreline litter in Dog River remains the same.

The leaders in the City of Mobile are just too incompetent to come up with a simple plan to remove the shoreline trash from Dog River watershed. It appears ADEM needs to sue the City of Mobile AGAIN for continuing to ignore the Existing City's storm water trash pollution in Dog River.

This is the type of pollution that all the best minds in the City of Mobile, despite fines and lawsuits, cannot figure out how to remove to restore Dog River wetlands to their healthy natural state. I had no problem paddling right up to the trash.

Hell, the City of Mobile cannot even find a way to keep the shoreline of their Dog River Park clean.

Ugly Rain

It rained yesterday. So how is that expensive litter trap doing with regards to keeping Dog River free of trash? Good news and bad news.

The good news is the litter trap prevented some of Eslava Creek's storm water trash from flowing down to Dog River.

The bad news is Dog River waterfront homeowners downstream of the litter trap are still burdened with storm water trash pollution. Above photo shows a resident out in the rain raking storm water trash away from his shoreline trash barrier fence so the City's storm water trash continues on downstream to burden some other homeowner.

In the above photo another resident downstream of the litter trap is out in the rain trying to dislodge storm water trash (which included a dead deer) collecting next to his boat. In other words, the litter trap is not helping this homeowner.

Down stream of the litter trap the rain left this home owner with a ring of trash around his property.

The rain left this boathouse downstream of the litter trap clogged with a nasty amount of storm water trash.

Downstream of the litter trap it is still easy to see an Ugly amount of trash floating in the water along the shoreline of Dog River. The litter trap is about worthless if no one removes the existing trash already polluting Dog River.

And what about living along Dog River near Moore Creek which has no litter trap? Look at the view the rain left this home owner. Ugly eh?

Look at the Ugly view people in this $1 Million Dollar home get to see. Storm water trash pollution is the reward people get for the priviledge of owning property along Dog River.

Again, the good news is the litter trap prevented some of the Litter Chunking community's trash from going into Dog River.

The bad news you would never even know there is a litter trap in the Dog River watershed due to all the trash seen after every rain. And yesterdays approx 4.5 inch rain with the exception of the brief initial deluge was for the most part a gentle rain that should not have propelled much trash into Dog River. As often as I have paddled up and down Dog River I still have NOT seen the City of Mobile's litter removal boat working Dog River.

Dog River continues to be burdened with vast amounts of trash pollution because the Ugly Mobile community has yet to get tough on littering and has yet to institute a plan to regularly remove roadside ditch trash and waterway trash pollution. That is the UGLY truth.

Trashy Drainage System

Drainage Ditches in Mobile are STILL in reality Mobile Litter Chunker's Community litter storage system. Just look at all the plastic trash on along this roadside ditch owned by the University of South Alabama in Mobile councilwoman's Gina Gregory's district.

Why do I insinuate Mobile's storm water drainage is still the Mobile community's litter disposal system? Because it is STILL common to see litter in drainage inlets and drainage ditches throughout the trashy City limits of Mobile. This roadside inlet along North Sage Avenue in Mobile Councilman Fred Richard's district, dangerously missing its steel cover next to the road and sidewalk, is obviously a holding spot for litter.

Yeah Boy, the City of Mobile leaders are really getting tough on littering and its storm water trash pollution like they promised they would to the Media.

NOT!

It seems Mobile leaders are too busy bickering with each other to do a competent job for the Mobile community they represent.

Ugly Dogs

Both Alabama and Mobile have dog leash laws but an Ugly amount of dog owners including my own neighbors ignore the dog leash laws leading to unnecessary confrontations with dogs running wild. Loose dogs not only chase and try to bite people, here is a loose dog running along Dog River by a geese nesting area harassing a few distraught geese smart enough to stay in deeper water.

There ought be a 365 day a year hunting season on wild dogs just like there is on wild pigs. I know. Dog lovers will think that is cruel. But the State of Alabama authorizes alligator hunts to keep the public safe and alligator attacks on humans are extremely rare. Sadly, dog attacks are all too common. Check out the following link:

Ugly Park Visitors

The trashy Municipal Park Lake in Mobile. There were dozens if not hundreds of empty plastic bread bags in and around the Lake. Apparently there are a lot of littering criminals using the public park and no litter enforcement officers issuing tickets to deter the crime of littering.

Or, maybe the Visitors to Municipal Park properly disposed of their trash in one of the City's inferior open top trash receptacles and wind or birds scattered the lightweight trash throughout the Park. It is obvious this overflowing trash receptacle is not emptied frequently enough.

Either way, the result of the trash collection problem in City Parks is Ugly. It shows the City of Mobile has no intention of getting tough on their community's litter and their storm water trash pollution problem.

The City of Mobile Parks Department will not use garbage cans with lids on them even thou city municipal code mandates residential and commercial property owners use trash receptacles with lids on them to prevent trash from escaping into the environment. The City of Mobile Parks Director should be Fired!

Fish Taste

Many big fish begin their lives in the upper tributaries like seen above. Do you eat fish? Taste pretty good? It should.

Good things like oil and starter fluid are being added to the water where the minnows swim. Yum yum.

Yup. America is turning into a Third World Country where the residents like in Mobile freely pollute their public waterways. That is Retarded and the Ugly truth.

Ugly Maple Street Canal

Above Photo:  Maple Street Canal in the Three Mile Creek watershed continues to be filled with the community of Mobile's litter chunker trash. That is because Mobile and Alabama do not have a single person working to remove the community's trash pollution from this 1/4 mile long polluted waterway. Complaints about that Ugly fact since 2011 have not given the City of Mobile any incentive to remove the trash from this City's property yet.

The sorry ass leaders in Mobile and Alabama do not give a fuck about "The Bottom" area of Mobile probably because it is a low income black area. The rich white people in Dog River get the litter trap and a litter boat.

There is so much trash underwater in Maple Street Canal that the water is now too shallow for a motor boat to access. A shallow creekbed promotes the growth of aquatic weeds further clogging the waterway. An increasingly shallow and clogged waterway negatively affects the ability of storm water runoff to drain which can cause unnecessary flooding in the Bottom and other downtown Mobile areas.

Above photo: Polluted Maple Street Canal shoreline - property owned by the City of Mobile. Great irony here. The City that refuses to deal with its Ugly criminal litter problem ends up with an increasing amount of its own MS4 trash on their own City of Mobile property labeled as Owens School Park on Google Maps.

The City of Mobile is Two-Faced. City leaders passed municipal code requiring residential and commercial property owners to keep their property free of litter on a daily basis, yet the City of Mobile will NOT remove the trash on their own property despite YEARS of complaints.

Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson and Mobile Councilman Levon Manzie are responsible for ignoring this waterway pollution and are therefore complicit in ignoring environmental pollution complaints. They should be charged accordingly and sent to jail where leaders who ignore pollution belong.
